The Institut für Geographie of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is looking for a

programmer / geoinformatics engineer / project scientist
(TVL-13 100%, 33 months)

within the project RETREAT: „Setup of an interactive platform for the processing and distribution of SENTINEL satellite data for glaciological variables” funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Afairs and Energy. The project aims at adapting and implementing existing automated processing chains developed by our group on the German SENTINEL-Hub CODE-DE. The successful candidate will be responsible for the optimization and implementation of the scripts as well as for the setup of an automated transfer of the data products to a Web-GIS interface. The processing shall be supported by a database and automated database entries for which the code has to be developed.

Desired qualifications:

  • good programming skills (e.g. R, Python and/or Linux shell)
  • background in remote sensing / geoinformatics, geophysics, physical geography or related disciplines from natural sciences or engineering
  • experience with processing of large data volumes
  • experience with high performance computing
  • experience with database design and management
  • fluency in English
  • knowledge of German is of advantage

The intended starting date is February 01st 2018. The employment is limited to 33 months due to availability of external project funds with a possibility of extension depending on additional third-party funding. The employment is full time with 100% of the regular working load. Depending on qualification and personal requirements this position is grouped into Entgelt-/Bes.Gr. E13.
