Climate change effects in north Iran derived from dendroecological approaches:Iran is located in a transition zone between different atmospheric circulation systems and is mainly dominated by semiarid climate conditions. During the last decades, climate in Iran has changed towards warmer and drier conditions. To derive better estimates of the long-term climatic variability, climate reconstructions based on high-resolution proxy data are needed. We present two studies that investigated the effects of climate change on different tree species from different forest ecosystems in north Iran. One study highlights the variability of wood anatomical characteristics of Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis) trees in the Caspian forest. Another study evaluated climatic signals in stable carbon isotope ratios of long-living juniper and oak trees in high-elevation environments of the Alborz Mountains. We finally discuss the potential of dendroecological approaches to evaluate the impacts of climate change in this highly sensitive region.Bild2 für Poster
